E4E Sunday December 28

Hi friends - we had a small conversation group on the 23rd, but the beginnings of some direction started to take place there. People discussed the sorts of things in which they are already acting on their passion, and how they could or would expand those if they had the opportunity.

We’ll continue that discussion on Sunday the 28th. You can read these stories of action that I’ve collected from various sources and give some thought to how your passion is being manifested in your life. If you’d like, you can jot down a paragraph or so of thoughts on this subject and bring them with you. Or you can post them here.

 Looking forward to further conversation!

2009 Practices

Hi friends - it’s time to start reflecting on your practices for the coming year. We will bring rough drafts for community reflection on Sunday, December 14 - we will then celebrate our re-commitment and renewal of the accountability circle as part of our celebration on Sunday, December 21.

I’ve included a practices worksheet to help you with your planning - it’s a pdf, so feel free to download and print it.   -md

E4E Sunday November 23

Hi Friends - thanks for the GREAT conversation at our October 26 E4E gathering! I appreciate the depth of your reflections and the complexity of your passions. Thanks for going with me on this journey.

Below are a few things for reading. The first is a reading from Matthew chapter 15, the feeding of 4000 families. This will likely be familiar, but take note that the disciples and Jesus have been at their work for three days, i.e. they (and everyone) really are out of food. Matthew’s version of this story makes clar how impossible their situation truly is, and what a miracle (of organizing? of faith? of what?) this feeding truly is. Here is the Matthew 15 text.

The next reading is an excerpt from a longer address I heard 1 1/2 years ago at the Psychology-Ecology-Susatinability conference. I’ve alluded to the story of Martin Luther King’s somewhat unglamorous call into civil rights in the past, but this is how Steve Chase told it. This is the excerpt from a speech called “Creative Maladjustment.” (If you have time, follow the link in the file to read the whole speech - it’s very thought-provoking.)

Finally, read this Orion piece by BK Loren entitled “Got Tape?” . This is a rather frank reflection on Loren’s experience trying to organize a community to save a piece of land from developers.

As you read these, consider a few questions:

1. What obstacles make the goal seem unachievable?

2. What emotions are felt by the main players?

3. How are the obstacles overcome, if at all?

If you’re not able to come for the discussion on November 23, consider posting some reflections here on the blog. That way your “voice” can still be heard.

 Thanks again!

This is our blog, which anyone can see if they want.  But only the people we add to our user list can make comments, or post their own reflections.

May this be a place for an ongoing conversation about what it means to be part of the WWC, seeking to live the values of the wilderness.
